Go to Credits (below) for photos of the players 1.Yesterday’s News (David Francey) 3:13 Lyrics Lead and backing vocals: David Francey I was loading up the woodstove one morning, consigning the previous day’s paper to the flames, and thought of Time’s merciful relegation of all our hurts and troubles to the past. 2. Pretty Jackals (David Francey) 2:18 Lyrics Vocals: David Francey A comment on the way the TV news is sometimes presented, a weird blend of reality and fiction. 3. Solitary Wave (David Francey and Kieran Kane) 2:48 Lyrics Vocals: David Francey I co-wrote this with Kieran Kane, at his cabin in New York State. The lake was a mirror that day, in every way. 4. When I’m Not Thinking About You (Kieran Kane/David Francey) 2:38 Lyrics Vocals: David Francey I wanted to do a duet with Kieran and this co-write seemed like the one. We’d both experienced being on this end of love first-hand and the song wrote itself. 5. Wonder (David Francey) 3:27 Lyrics Vocals: David Francey There are moments in life when you find yourself wondering about what might have been. This is a song about one of those rare moments. 6. Blue Heart of Texas (David Francey) 2:44 Lyrics Vocals: David Francey I spend a lot of time on the road where there is a lot of distance to get lost in. You know you’re lost when the hotel room feels like home. 7. Just the Same (David Francey) 2:10 Lyrics Vocals: David Francey A girlfriend at the time, spotlit by the streetlight in the parking lot behind the restaurant we both worked at. It was a memorable image and it led to this song years later. 8. Borderlands (David Francey and Lori Watson) 1:16 Lyrics Vocals David Francey I co-wrote this song with Lori Watson, a wonderful musician from the Borders in Scotland. We met at the Songwriters’ House, Celtic Colours Festival, Baddeck, Cape Breton. A celebration of a winter’s day. 9. High Wall (David Francey) 2:46 Lyrics Vocals: David Francey The most difficult obstacles I have to overcome in life are usually of my own making. 10. I Live in Fear (David Francey and Kieran Kane) 2:36 Lyrics Vocals: David Francey Written with Kieran Kane. “I Live in Fear” pays homage to renowned Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa and his black and white 1950s film of the same name. Both the movie and the song are an appeal for dignity. 11. Long Brown Hair (David Francey) 2:04 Lyrics Vocals: David Francey A song about the dissolution of a marriage or the solution to that marriage, depending on your point of view. 12. Thanks I owe a great debt of thanks to the musicians who played on this CD. It was a pleasure and an honour to share a studio with people who showed such generosity of spirit, talent and humour. Many thanks to Kieran Kane, for his inspiration, talent, friendship and drive. Thanks to Kieran and Lori Watson for writing with me. Charles Yingling was a treat to work with, and very much a part of the band, albeit from behind the glass.
